As of 4/12/04, conflicting reports from Ecogen and SCIDA indicate that perhaps all the 98 sites on the map represent signed leases, and perhaps only some of these sites are signed, and others are "potential sites". If the latter is true, there should be grave concern that SCIDA, having released the map, is tacitly endorsing a document which Ecogen can use to pressure holdout landowners to sign leases. This issue should be clarified as soon as possible.

You will also notice that the "Project Area" for Ecogen's Prattsburgh/Italy windfarm covers over 34,800 acres - 54 square miles, 30+ square miles in the Town of Prattsburgh and 20+ square miles in the Town of Italy. This belies past claims that the Ecogen project would only cover 3,000 acres. You should also check out the tower sites for the UPC' Windfarm Prattsburgh project.

Please carefully review both maps and become familiar with the proximity of the proposed windtowers to your property lines, residences, and any sites you may have planned for future homes and cabins. If you get a copy of the tax map for your area from Steuben County, you will also notice that the tower sites are surrounded by and interspersed among the properties of non-participating landowners. Keep in mind that not only Ecogen, but UPC - Windfarm Prattsburgh are planning to erect towers in this area, so both maps should be carefully reviewed.

Windmill Myths
MYTH # 14: These industrial towers will be safely sited in an industrial park.
Fact: No. If you live or own property in the 35 square-mile Ecogen “Project Area” – where the great majority of the landowners have NOT leased to the windfarm developers – the industrial park has been brought to you, and you and your neighbors live inside it.
